Water & Well

Water is supplied by a well. You can see the white well casing stick up from the ground in the backyard. The water is safe to use and drink as-is, however we run it through various whole house filters to make sure it looks and tastes great year around. The fridge dispenser also has a second dispenser carbon filter in the fridge.

The large blue tank is a pressure tank (WELLXTROL) for the well. It acts as a buffer for the well and also helps creating a more equal pressure.

Inside the gray box in front of the pressure tank is a relay switch. You can hear it click on and off as the relay turns the pump inside the well on and off. You cannot hear the pump running as it is inside the exterior well casing – you will hear the click sound of the relay switch turning on and off periodically and also when the water is flowing.

The heat is supplied by the instant hot water heater on the left wall. You should not need to change anything on that in normal circumstances. The temperature on the instant heater is usually set to max temperature, and the hot water is then made cooler by the blue mixing valve mixing the hot water with an adjustable amount of cold water to get it to a safe temperature. The mixing valve is set to provide a safe temperature of the hot water flowing out of the showers and faucets throughout the home.

Some waterlines in the home are longer than others – so hot water may take a while to kick in. Especially when you haven’t run a hot water line for a while. You can typically run two showers at the same time, or the washing machine and one shower. It may depend on the season or at what point in the wash cycle you are for the washing machine etc.
