There is an airbase across the water, Naval Air Station Patuxent River. The Navy is the largest employer in the community with approximately 20,000 employed on the station. This includes roughly 2,400 active duty, 9,100 federal employees, 9,500 defense contractors, 420 non-appropriated-fund employees, and 4,500 family members.
From time to time you will hear and see activity around the home and across the water. The Navy continually does research, development and testing and you may see Ospreys and F35’s as well as Poseidon and Orion aircrafts.
You can view their schedules and noise advisories on this page Citizen Concerns (navy.mil)
If you are interested in the history of the base, please see History (navy.mil)
The Pautuxent River Naval Air Museum is near the entrance to the base – a great place to spend 2-3 hours if you are interested. It is 25 minutes away across the bridge. In the area around the museum, you will find Walmart, Target, BJ’s and any restaurant you may want. Home – Patuxent River Naval Air Museum Preserve, Educate, Inspire (paxmuseum.com)
