Central Vacuum Cleaner

The central vacuum cleaner is located in the hallway closet to the right of the clothes washing machine. It is a hide-away-hose kind of thing – the full vaccum hose is hidden inside piping under the house and has to be pulled out before use. The hose, when pulled all the way out, will reach all parts of the home (yes, even the corners.) Note: The hose does sometimes kinks, so if suction disappears or the sound the vacuum makes change, look for kinks in the hose.

To take the hose out to use:

STEP 1: TURN HOSE LEVER TO OPEN BY FLIPPING IT TO THE RIGHT

STEP 2: PULL OUT HOSE TO DESIRED LENGTH. IT WILL STOP WHEN REACHING THE END
(IF YOU PULL IT ALL THE WAY OUT BY MISTAKE JUST PUSH IT BACK IN)

STEP3: LOCK THE HOSE LEVER TO THE LEFT

STEP 4: YOU CAN NOW VACCUUM BY TURNING IT ON AND OFF WITH THE BUTTON AT THE HANDLE  (MAKE SURE THE HOSE DOESN’T TWIST AND GET CLINCHED)

STEP 5: TO PUT BACK THE VACUUM, LOCK THE HOSE LEVER TO THE RIGHT AGAIN. LEAVE THE VACCUMM ON SO THE SUCTION HELPS TO PULL THE HOSE BACK IN. YOU WILL HAVE TO HELP FED IT AT TIMES. TURN OFF VACCUUM AND LEAVE 5-6 FEET SO YOU CAN HANG THE VACCUM UP

Troubleshooting:

Q: Vacuum wont come on!

A: There are two switches for the vaccuum – you can use either or in combination. One is on the handle and has a green/red light. Sometimes that switch can be a bit finnicky so you may have to turn it on and off a few times. There is a small second switch to the left of where the hose goes into the wall – sometimes you may have to use that one instead.

Q: Vacuum gets sucked into the wall and won’t stay out

A: Make sure you pull the hose all the way until the end when you feel it catches, then flip the lever from the right to the left to “catch” the hose. Depending on how worn the hose-lock-part is, you may have to try a few times to get it to lock properly.

Q: Vacuum doesn’t suck

A: Likely there is a kink in it – check along the whole way to make sure there isn’t a sharp kink in the hose. It is also possible you vacuumed something large that got stuck in the hose or handle. Check the handle first – usually thinks get stuck in that initial bend.

Q: Vacuum still doesn’t work

A: It looks like you may have to use the white cordless vacuum hanging on the wall to the left of the washing machine instead.
