Beach

The beach behind the home above the Mean High Tide line belongs to the home. Anyone can walk, run (or sit) on the beaches below the Mean High Tide line in Maryland.

There may be other neighbors from the community on the beach using it, especially by the community access stairs and on the neighboring vacant lot. Unless they are a nuisance, you may want to say hi and try to have a great time together. We have not experienced the beach being overcrowded and usually you will have our beach to yourself.

We have put up signs on the bulkheads and by the community access stairs – if there are any issues with your enjoyment of beach, please let Liezel know asap.

The size of the beach and its usability varies from season to season (or even day by day) based on weather, wind, and tides.

There are beach chairs available for your use in the gray box between the firepit and the swing. There may also be other equipment like umbrellas and sand toys for your enjoyment there and under the deck (where the paddleboards are.)

There are multiple sandbars as you move out from the beach in the water. Depending on the tide you can usually go faaar out before it gets to your shoulders.

At times during the year, there may be jellyfish in the water. Again, will depend upon the water temperature and wind conditions (you may see small jellyfish washed up on the beach when they are in season.) People have different sensitivities to jellyfish – if you get stung try pouring vinegar and then rub with sand to reduce the itching. If the jellyfish are too much – an alternative is to go swimming at the Cove Point Pool 15 minutes away. See opening hours and directions here.

At times during the year there may be chuggers or sandflies etc. They are usually there just for a few days – putting on mosquito repellent may chase them off. The insects are active at various parts of the day so mornings may be better than evenings etc. The screened porch off the shed is a great way to enjoy the evening outside on those days.

In the summer (usually after Labor Day,) there is a hand shower to rinse off with on the side of the stairs by the seated swing. You can also use the water hose off the house to rinse off year around.

There are canoes by the community stairs and paddleboards/paddles available under the deck. There may also be some small surf boards or similar under the deck. Please use life-vests – some are available as-is in the mirror closet in one of the bedrooms.
